On the 24th of December Ambassador Sumi had a friendly meeting in his residence with Natashya Guziy, the Ukrainian singer and bandura player who performs in Japan.
When Mrs. Guziy was six years old, there was an accident at the Chernobyl power plant where her father worked; she and her family were forced to leave in evacuation. Unfortunately, the village where they used to live was buried without any radioactive materials disposed. Due to the extremely high level of radiation, Natashya had the sad experience of her home being extinguished from the maps.
Now, Mrs. Guziy not only performs playing on the traditional Ukrainian musical instrument – bandura, but also does her original songs and covers on Japanese pop songs. Furthermore she organizes and takes part in events and lectures dedicated to the Chernobyl accident.
During this friendly meeting Ambassador Sumi and Mrs. Guziy had a wide range of conversations on Natashya’s life and activities in Japan, cultural differences between Ukraine and Japan and so on.
