Reception for H.M. the Emperor of Japan’s 84th Birthday

On December 7th, 2017 Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Shigeki Sumi hosted a reception on the occasion of the 84rd birthday of His Majesty Emperor Akihito of Japan. The reception was attended by Ukrainian government officials, including Minister of Culture Yevhen Nyshchuk, members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, representatives of the diplomatic corps, business circles, Miss Ukraine and Miss International and others.
At the venue, guests could enjoy photo exhibition dedicated to the activities of the Year of Japan in Ukraine, such as cultural events or sakura planting. Also, ikebana exhibition, tea ceremony, Japanese cars exhibition, Japanese sake tasting and other activities were organized. The chef of Ambassador's Residence demostrated the cooking of famous Japanese dishes sushi and tempura which were later offered to guests. Moreover, a former Japanese judo world champion Mr. Yasuyuki Muneta, who came to Ukraine to give a seminar on judo, attended the event.
In his speech Ambassador Sumi summarized the Year of Japan in Ukraine activities, such as large-scale exhibition "Imaginary traveler. Japan", sakura planting all over Ukraine and other events, and emphasized that Japan and Ukraine relations gradually strengthen. Also, due to the opening of JICA office in Ukraine in November and Japan's visa liberalization for Ukrainians from January 1, Ambassador expressed his hopes towards further deepening of economic and human resources exchange between Japan and Ukraine.
After Ambassador`s speech the ceremony of sake barrel opening Kagamibiraki was held with the participation of Ambassador Sumi, Minister of Culture, Head of the Japanese Business Club, Yasuyuki Muneta, Miss Ukraine and Miss International.
