On February 17, 2016 the Ambassador of Japan Shigeki Sumi held a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Pavlo Klimkin.
During the meeting, it was recalled that North Korea launched a ballistic missile which it calls a “satellite” on February 7, 2016. This was following the nuclear test conducted by North Korea on January 6, 2016. In this connection, Ambassador Sumi emphasized that such activities tremendously undermine the peace and security of the region as well as the international community. Moreover, it is crucial for the international community to urge North Korea to fully comply with relevant UN Security Council resolutions among others.
In this regard, Minister Klimkin agrees with the Japanese views. It was confirmed that both Japan and Ukraine will continue cooperating closely in this field, taking it into consideration that both countries are currently members of the UN Security Council.
Minister Klimkin expressed his appreciation for Japanese economic cooperation including the modernization of Bortnychi Sewage Treatment Plant. Besides economic cooperation, Ambassador Sumi exchanged views with Minister Klimkin fruitfully on many issues within the bilateral relations.
