Ambassador Sumi visited Donetsk region (15-16.02)

  On February 15-16, 2016, Ambassador of Japan in Ukraine Mr. Shigeki Sumi visited the Donetsk region (Kostyantynivka, Svyatohirsk, Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka) in order to participate in the completion ceremonies of the International Organization for Migration (IOM)-implemented projects for renovation of local facilities under the assistance program for the recovery of eastern regions, as well as to hold meetings and exchange views with representatives of the local authorities. During the visit Ambassador Sumi met with the Head of Donetsk Regional State Administration Mr. Pavlo Zhebrivskyi, who expressed sincere gratitude for Japan’s assistance to eastern Ukraine, and explained regarding the current situation in the Donetsk region which is affected by military actions. In turn, Ambassador Sumi said Japan will continue to provide support in order to ensure the middle and long-term recovery of eastern regions.
  Furthermore, Ambassador Sumi visited children and youth creativity centers in Kostyantynivka and Druzhkivka and the municipal music school in Slovyansk, which were renovated under Japan-funded projects. Ambassador Sumi participated in the completion ceremonies of the projects and many people, including Druzhkivka City Mayor, representatives of the facilities and students, conveyed their deep gratitude for Japan’s assistance. Additionally, Ambassador Sumi visited and offered flowers upon the graves of Japanese prisoners of World War II in Druzhkivka.
