28/4/2016

On the 28th of April, 2016, a mini concert dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Chornobyl Accident was held at Ambassador Sumi’s Residence. Especially for this occasion, musicians such as Natalia Guziy (born in Ukraine, singer and bandura player), Akira Inoue (pianist, composer and producer), Asuka Kaneko (violinist), Ryouichirou Yoshida (tsugaru shamisen player) and Shin Ichikawa (koto player) all arrived from Japan.
During the time of the disaster, Natalia Guziy’s father was working at the Chornobyl power plant, and Natalia was only 3.5 kilometers away from the plant. Today, while living in Japan, Natalia not only gives concerts but she also organises and takes part in events as well as lectures which are dedicated to the Chornobyl Accident.
Around seventy guests, among them government officials and diplomats, attended the event. The guests were greatly pleased with the performance, which started with Natalia Guziy performing Song of the Birds written by Spanish composer Pablo Casals as a symbol of peace. Then Ryouichirou Yoshida and Shin Ichikawa presented and played traditional Japanese musical instruments, and in conclusion all the performers sang in unison My Love, Kyiv.
