Ambassador Sumi moderated the Conference as Co-chair

On April 25, 2016 the Nuclear Safety Account Pledging Conference was held at the InterContinental Kyiv Hotel. G7 Presidency Japan’s Ambassador Shigeki Sumi and Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Hennadii Zubko co-chaired the event.
The event was organized to announce countries’ additional contributions to cover the shortage of costs for the ongoing construction of the Interim Spent Fuel Storage Facility (ISF-2) which is being funded through the EBRD-managed Nuclear Safety Account.
Following the opening remarks by Prime Minister of Ukraine Groysman, Ambassador of Japan Shigeki Sumi stated that the G7 countries together with the European Commission have announced that they are aiming to make an additional contribution of approximately 45 million Euros. Additionally, the Netherlands and Ukraine pledged a total of 2.4 million Euros, meanwhile the EBRD announced its additional contribution in the amount of 40 million Euros.
