Ambassador Sumi with the new patrol police


  On April 14, 2016, Ambassador Sumi visited Kramatorsk city in Donetsk Region and participated in the swearing-in ceremony of the new patrol police in the cities of Kramatorsk and Slovyansk. Japan is one of the donor countries supporting Ukraine's police reform, and that is why the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov invited Ambassador Sumi to attend the event.
  The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko also participated in the ceremony during which he announced the starting date of the service of two hundred new patrol police officers; he then stressed the importance of their work in his speech. Furthermore, President Poroshenko expressed gratitude for Japan’s assistance in implementing the new police reform.
  As a symbol of reforms taking place in Ukraine, it is expected that the new patrol police will earn the trust of the Ukrainian people.
