Participation in the Swearing-in Ceremony of the new patrol police in Mariupol

  On May 30, 2016 Ambassador Sumi visited Mariupol city in the Donetsk region and participated in the Swearing-in Ceremony of the new patrol police. Apart from the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman, Vice Prime Minister –Minister of Regional Development, Building and Housing of Ukraine Hennadii Zubko, and Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov, the representatives of the diplomatic missions of Japan, the USA, Canada and the EU, whom provided assistance for the implementation of police reform, also participated in the ceremony.
  During the ceremony, Prime Minister Groysman announced the official starting date of the service of the two hundred new patrol police officers. The Prime Minister also expressed his determination to work toward further reform of the security system in Ukraine. Ambassador Sumi in his address explained the Japanese police-box system, and also conveyed his expectations that the new police will earn the trust of the Ukrainian people.
  Mariupol was the last among twenty-eight cities where a swearing-in ceremony of the new patrol police has taken place. It is anticipated that the new patrol police officers, including those who have already begun their service, will work successfully in the whole territory of Ukraine.
