Ambassador Sumi visited sites in Donetsk and Luhansk Regions being renovated under UNDP and UNICEF projects financed by Japan

On August 29-30 the Ambassador of Japan Shigeki Sumi visited the sites of projects implemented with the financial support of Japan within the framework of UNDP and UNICEF programmes for the post-conflict recovery of eastern regions. Ambassador Sumi inspected a post office and Municipal Kindergarten No. 43 in Mykolayivka, Donetsk Region, an art café and a shop for repairing and restoring pillows, Kreminna Water Pumping Station and Lysychansk Municipal School No. 8 in Luhansk Region. A lot of people living in the area, including IDPs, will benefit from the assistance provided for the restoration of facilities damaged during the armed conflict and support for the business startups of IDPs.
During the visit Ambassador Sumi also participated in the ceremony of laying the Alley of Friendship between Japan and Mykolayivka. The local hospital and a post office were renovated with the financial support of Japan, and the local community decided to lay the Alley of Friendship in their town to express their gratitude to the people of Japan.
