During the seminar
On September 23, 2016 Ambassador Sumi took part in and delivered a speech at the Japan-Ukraine Seminar on Science and Technology Cooperation: “Research with/in Japan”, which was organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT), Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, National Technical University of Ukraine “KPI”, and held on the premises of the latter.
This seminar was held to convey the attractiveness of the Japanese research environment and to provide research cooperation opportunities to Ukrainian researchers and university students in order to promote science and technology cooperation between Japan and Ukraine, including joint research and researcher exchange. The event was attended by around 400 people, including Mr. Yamada, Director for International Cooperation, International Science and Technology Affairs Division, MEXT, and a further 8 participants from Japan.
In his speech, Ambassador Sumi said that Japan has provided around USD 1.85 billion in assistance to Ukraine since 2014. He conveyed his expectations that Ukrainian researchers will participate actively in joint research and exchange with Japanese counterparts in order to further promote cooperation in various fields of science and technology.
During the seminar, Japanese and Ukrainian specialists gave examples of successful collaborative research. Furthermore, the system of collaborative research and expert exchange with overseas countries that MEXT and Japanese research institutions have was also presented.
