Ambassador Sumi paid a visit to Donetsk Region (7-8 November, 2016)

On 7-8 November 2016 Ambassador Sumi visited Donetsk Region (cities of Slovyansk, Svyatohorsk, Kostyantynivka and Pokrovsk) to inspect the sites that are under the project to reconstruct eastern regions of Ukraine, which are supported by the Government of Japan and implemented by the UNHCR (United Nations Agency for Refugees) and WFP (World Food Programme), and to speak to local government representatives in the east.
During the visit, Ambassador Sumi held a meeting with Mr. Zhebrivskyi, the the Head of Donetsk Regional State Administration. The Head of Administration expressed his gratitude to Japan for the support provided by the Government of Japan and explained about future plans for the reconstruction of eastern regions of Ukraine. Ambassador Sumi confirmed that there would be further support for the recovery process in the east of Ukraine from the Japanese Government in unison with international organizations.
