Ambassador Sumi met President Poroshenko

On January 11, 2017 Ambassador of Japan Shigeki Sumi visited the Presidential Administration to participate in the signing ceremony of the Decree of the President of Ukraine on declaring 2017 the Year of Japan in Ukraine and held a meeting with the President.
During the meeting, President Poroshenko said it will be great to celebrate the Year of Japan in Ukraine contributing to the further development of good relations between the two countries. Speaking about the exchange of visits between the leaders of the two countries in 2015 and 2016, the President expressed his sincere gratitude for Japan’s strong support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and its substantial assistance.
In turn, Ambassador Sumi congratulated the President on New Year and Christmas. He said that relations between Japan and Ukraine are very close and noted that the aim of the Year of Japan in Ukraine is to expand these friendly relations between the leaders to the level of ordinary people. Ambassador Sumi said that events within the framework of the Year of Japan in Ukraine are expected to be held not only by the Japanese side, but in close cooperation with the whole Ukrainian society.
