Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Embassy of Japan in Ukraine held the opening ceremony of the “Year of Japan in Ukraine” commemorating the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations

  On January 26, 2017 the opening ceremony of the “Year of Japan in Ukraine” commemorating the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Japan was jointly held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine at the Diplomatic Academy.
  From the Japanese side Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Shigeki Sumi participated in the ceremony and delivered a speech. The Ukrainian side was represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin and Minister of Culture of Ukraine Yevhen Nyshchuk, who also gave their speeches. Ambassador Sumi said that among a lot of countries commemorating the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations, it is a great honour for Japan to celebrate the “Year of Japan in Ukraine”. He expressed hopes that it will be a good opportunity to further strengthen cooperation and deepen understanding between the two countries having expanded friendly relations to the level of ordinary people. In turn, Foreign Minister Klimkin said that over the last 25 years Japan has been a sincere friend of Ukraine and now their bilateral relations are extremely good. Furthermore, the Minister noted that Japanese culture, such as ikebana, is very popular in Ukraine.
  The ceremony was attended by around 150 people, including representatives of the Ukrainian Government, leading ambassadors and diplomatic corps, international organizations, cultural circles and Japanese business. A presentation of Japanese cuisine, alcohol and culture was performed during the ceremony, which turned out to be a great success.
