On March 20 Ambassador of Japan Shigeki Sumi, together with the Member of the Parliament of Ukraine Oleksii Poroshenko (older son of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko; Member of the “Petro Poroshenko Block” elected in Vinnytsia region), participated in the handover ceremony for medical equipment (CT scanner, endoscopy equipment) provided to the Ministry of Defense through the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS), which was held in the Military Medical Clinical Centre of the Central Region in Vinnytsia.
As part of the humanitarian assistance to the healthcare sector, the above-mentioned equipment was granted in order to improve the medical system of hospitals providing treatment and rehabilitation to those wounded in the conflict in eastern Ukraine, whose number is increasing every day.
In his speech, Ambassador Sumi said that support for the healthcare sector of Ukraine is very important for Japan and expressed hopes that the above-mentioned assistance will contribute to the improvement of medical service provided to Ukrainian people.
In turn, Oleksii Poroshenko expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Sumi, UNOPS and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine for their efforts and thanked the Government of Japan for its continued support.
