On March 20 Ambassador of Japan Shigeki Sumi visited Vinnytsia and participated in the handover ceremony of a certificate for planting sakura in the city.
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Japan and Ukraine, the year 2017 was declared as the Year of Japan in Ukraine. In this connection, a project for planting sakura trees in various cities of Ukraine is being implemented. Under the project, around 50-80 trees are planned to be planted in Vinnytsia.
The ceremony was also attended by the Member of the Ukrainian Parliament Oleksii Poroshenko (older son of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko) and became a great success having aroused the interest of local press.
