Ambassador Sumi visited Donetsk and Luhansk Regions (March 28-29)

  On March 28-29 Ambassador of Japan Shigeki Sumi visited Donetsk (cities of Slovyansk, Lyman, Svyatohirsk) and Luhansk (cities of Sievierodonetsk and Bilokurakyne) regions in order to take part in completion ceremonies of projects financed by Japan and implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), as well as exchange views with representatives of local authorities. During the visit Ambassador Sumi held meetings with the Head of Donetsk Regional State Administration Pavlo Zhebrivskyi and the Head of Luhansk Regional State Administration Yuriy Harbuz, during which the governors expressed their gratitude for the assistance provided by Japan and explained the current situation in the conflict-affected regions. In turn, Ambassador Sumi said Japan will continue to provide assistance to Ukraine.
  Furthermore, Ambassador Sumi visited Lyman Central Municipal Library in Donetsk region and Bilokurakyne Center for Children’s and Youth’s Arts in Luhansk region, which were renovated under the above-mentioned projects, and participated in the completion ceremonies. He also took part in the Festival of Communities which brought together the representatives of communities that have benefited from the IOM-implemented projects funded by Japan. During the event, Japan-related workshops, songs and dances were performed.
