Minister-Counsellor Michio Harada visited Slavutych

On November 16 Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine Michio Harada visited Slavutych town where he held a meeting with the City Mayor Yurii Fomichev and participated in the Sakura Planting Ceremony.
Slavutych is a city with a population of approximately 25,000, which was built as a place of residence for Chernobyl NPP staff and their family members immediately after the nuclear accident.
Mayor Fomichev welcomed Minister-Counsellor Harada in Slavutych. He noted that our countries share the tragic experience and promised to take care of the sakura trees which are a symbol of friendly relations with Japan. The Mayor also expressed eagerness to further strengthen the relationship.
In turn, Michio Harada said he was happy to visit Slavutych and plant sakura trees there. He noted that both Japan and Ukraine have a bitter experience of accidents at nuclear plants and stressed on their obligation to convey this experience to the world.
