Ambassador Sumi met with the Head of Donetsk Regional State Administration Pavlo Zhebrivskyi

On February 13, 2018 Ambassador of Japan Shigeki Sumi, together with the UNHCR Representative in Ukraine Pablo Mateu, held a meeting and exchanged views with the Head of Donetsk Regional State Administration Pavlo Zhebrivskyi.
The Governor thanked Japan for its support and explained about the Donbas reintegration law, as well as the plans for reconstruction of water and gas infrastructure.
In turn, Ambassador Sumi said that Japan will continue to provide assistance for the reconstruction of eastern regions in cooperation with international organizations. He noted that around USD 4 million will be allocated through international organizations in 2018, including an armored car and protective clothing which are planned to be provided to “Voda Donbasu” in order to ensure the safety of the company’s employees. Ambassador Sumi expressed hopes it will help to ensure the stable supply of water to the people living on Donetsk region.
The UNHCR Representative in Ukraine Pablo Mateu said that in 2018 UNHCR will provide the same level of support to eastern regions as the previous years, stressing that it is possible thanks to the support of donor countries like Japan.
