Ambassador Sumi visited Donetsk region together with UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Agnes Chan

  On June 18 Ambassador Sumi visited Donetsk region, where the armed conflict has been continuing since 2014, together with the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Asia Agnes Chan who is now visiting Ukraine.

1. Briefing by Ambassador Sumi (June 17)
  Prior to the visit to Donetsk region, Ambassador Sumi gave a briefing to the Goodwill Ambassador Agnes Chan at his residence, during which he explained about the current situation in Ukraine and its eastern part in particular.

2. Visit of Kramatorksk City School No. 9 (June 18)
  The Goodwill Ambassador Agnes Chan, together with the UNICEF Representative in Ukraine Giovanna Barberis, visited Kramatorsk City School No. 9 which was renovated with the funds contributed to UNICEF by Japan.
  At school, they practiced handicrafts with children and listened to the stories about their voluntary activities. Besides the singing performance, Agnes Chan conveyed a message saying "Keep dreaming, keep believing" to the children.

3. Visit to a water pumping station in Semenivka village Slovyansk district (June 18)
  This facility was greatly damaged by shelling in June 2014. It was restored with the funds provided to UNDP by the Government of Japan and is now supported by UNICEF.
  The delegation received an explanation from representatives of the water supply company “Voda Donbasu”, which has jurisdiction over the facility, regarding the situation at the time of shelling in 2014, as well as the importance of this facility supplying water to 3.5 million local residents.

4. Hospital which suffered from shelling
  The delegation also inspected the state of a hospital that suffered from the conflict in the vicinity of Kramatorsk. The scars of shelling remain untouched.
 
    


5. Dinner with the Acting Head of Donetsk Regional State Administration Yevhen Vilinskyi (June 18)
  In Kramatorsk, the delegation held a dinner with the Acting Head of Donetsk Regional State Administration Yevhen Vilinskyi, who conveyed his sincere gratitude to UNICEF and the Government of Japan for the assistance provided.
