Reception to support Japan’s candidacy for hosting World Expo 2025

On November 2 Ambassador Sumi and his wife held a presentation followed by a reception in their residence to support the candidacy of Osaka (Kansai) for hosting World Expo 2025. Being aimed hosting for the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, the event was held for Ukrainian officials and business-people related to this international exhibition. It was attended by around 50 representatives of the government, business, art and media, including the Minister of Culture of Ukraine Yevhen Nyshchuk, Former Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Borys Lozhkin, President of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Hennadii Chyzhykov and others.
In his speech, Ambassador Sumi spoke about the General Assembly of the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE) to be held in Paris in late November, during which the host country of the World Expo 2025 will be determined by voting. He expressed confidence that Osaka, Kansai will be elected and Ukraine will support Japan’s candidacy. In turn, Minister Nyshchuk agreed with Ambassador Sumi and conveyed his confidence that Osaka will be elected to host the World Expo. He also mentioned that Ukraine has supported Japan in the past and on behalf of the Ukrainian government promised to support Japan in future.
During the presentation, representatives of the Embassy provided information about the plan of the World Expo in 2025, its concept and theme, security and disaster prevention measures, as well as the peculiarities of Osaka and Kansai region, etc. Furthermore, during the reception, Japanese dishes (okonomiyaki, sushi, tempura etc.) were prepared and served by the chef of the Ambassador’s residence, which also helped to promote Osaka’s candidacy through Japanese cuisine.
