10/4/2019
On April 10-11, 2019, Ambassador of Japan Takashi Kurai visited Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

1. Provision of equipment to the Communal Company “Voda Donbasu” (Pokrovsk, Donetsk region)
Ambassador Kurai, together with the UNICEF Representative in Ukraine Anne-Charlotte Sylwander and UNOPS Ukraine Country Manager Andriy Buryakovskyy, participated in the ceremony to hand over the equipment provided by Japan to the Communal Company “Voda Donbasu”.
In the eastern part of Ukraine where the conflict is still continuing, the Communal Company “Voda Donbasu” plays an important role in ensuring water supply throughout the Donetsk region. Water supply facilities are often damaged by shelling, particularly alongside the contact line between the government-controlled areas and the occupied territories, and the company personnel are often at risk. Therefore, Japan provided two specialized utility vehicles and personal protective equipment to ensure the safety and efficiency of work of the company staff involved in water supply facilities repair, as well as to secure the sustainable water supply, which is of great importance for the life of local people.
During the ceremony, the Head of Donetsk Regional State Administration Oleksandr Kuts and Director General of the Communal Company “Voda Donbasu” Oleksandr Yevdokymov expressed their sincere gratitude to Japan for the assistance provided.
