On January 16, 2015 the Ambassador of Japan Shigeki Sumi participated in the launch meeting for the project titled “African Swine Fever: Risk Awareness Raising and Risk Mitigation in Ukraine.” This is financially supported by the government of Japan through the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine also participated in the meeting). Ambassador Sumi mentioned that Ukraine has a rich agricultural and industrial background, therefore preventing of the spread of African swine fever is very important from the viewpoint of its influence on the pork production sector. The Ambassador also stated that in addition to the economic assistance of 1.5 billion US dollars that was announced in March 2014, Japan will continue to provide support to the Government and people of Ukraine.
